New Hire Medical Screening

OHS has saved employers countless dollars and future headaches by not only eliminating candidates who are unfit for duty but also by documenting existing medical conditions for reference in the event of a work injury. Pre-placement screenings assist the employer to meet minimum regulatory requirements defined by state and federal safety & health agencies. Screening employee candidates for the presence of mood altering chemicals and to obtain specific baseline testing, helps to manage the employer's future risk as it relates to compensable hearing loss, and, pre-existing acute or chronic conditions.

24/7 On-Call Occupational Nurse

Early Intervention with any medical issue is key. Many workplace injuries are musculoskeletal and often are not incident related. These symptoms are often difficult for an employee to report to the supervisor and difficult for the supervisor to know how to handle. The OHS Nurse, available to employers 24/7, assists both the employee and the supervisor. In some cases self care measures can be recommended and the employee experiences symptom-relief without the need for medical attention. When medical attention is needed the OHS nurse assists the employee to obtain prompt and appropriate care. The OHS Nurse also can serve as the gatekeeper for return-to-work from personal medical absences to assure employees are fit-for-duty

Workers' Compensation

Because an OHS Nurse is an integral part of the OHS workers' compensation management team and touches every claim, the employer is assured that the medical information is reviewed and an action plan established by a health professional. The involvement of a nurse with claims management sets OHS apart from the typical TPA. This model has proven cost effective and a win:win for both employers and injured employees in WA, OR, and ID.

Mobile Hearing Testing

OHS takes pride in providing a quality hearing test in our mobile van. Three sound-attenuated booths are available for testing 9-12 employees per hour. Employees report that the booth provides a quiet environment for testing and employers note that less retesting is required due to a quality test the first time. The convenient, all-inclusive, hourly fee allows employers cost-effective flexibility with scheduling.

Employee Assistance

Drug and alcohol abuse, relationship issues, financial hardships, and, other personal issues can create or contribute to performance problems in the workplace. The OHS Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides confidential consultation to employees and their families to deal with these real life concerns. Supervisors can mandate an employee seek assistance from the EAP to address a performance concern and determine the employee's fitness for duty. The OHS Employee Assistance Program helps employers manage behavioral health issues in the workplace.

Wellness Screening

Healthcare costs in the U.S. have doubled from 1990 to 2001 and are projected to double by 2012. Four of the ten most costly health conditions affecting employers are related to heart disease and stroke. Workplace screening can identify employees with high blood pressure, body fat, blood sugar, and cholesterol--all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. The OHS wellness screenings have discovered and referred many employees needing intervention to correct these lifestyle-related health issues.

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP)

OHS assists employees and employers to cost-effectively comply with Department of Transportation regulations. The costs associated with violations of 49 CFR Part 40.382 for professional motor vehicle operators can be significant for the organization and employees. Our certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) provides mandatory chemical dependency evaluations. Once completed, the SAP determines a follow-up testing plan and is an arm of the company, working to ensure employees return to the workforce as soon as safely possible. Additionally, OHS offers the DOT mandated Driver Awareness Training for supervisors and employees.

Respirator Medical Clearance and Respirator Fit Testing

Employees who are required to wear a respirator are also required to be medically cleared and annually fit tested to assure compliance with OSHA respiratory protection regulations. OHS offers both of these services at our Spokane location or on-site for employers' convenience.
